The conceptual plan of President University was first formulated in September 1997 by S. D. Darmono, the Chairman of Jababeka Group and Prof. Donald W. Watts, who was the President of Bond University, Queensland and Vice Chancellor of Curtin University, Western Australia. The goal of their proposed University was to create an institution of learning which would prepare future leaders of industry and society by giving them the skills and experience necessary to excel upon graduation.

The institution was officially operated in 2001, offering a Bachelor of Engineering degree. At that time, the institution was called the Cikarang School of Engineering (Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Cikarang). On April 16, 2004, the Ministry of Education granted President University official status as a full-fledged university.

Although as a relatively young university, President University (PresUniv) is growing at a tremendous rate every year. There are now approximately 5,000 students attending President University from Indonesia as well as many other countries. President University has expanded its courses offerings and now offers 14 different majors in subjects ranging from Industrial Engineering to Public Relations.

He is the Chairman of PATA (Pacific Asia Tourism Association), Chairman The Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Corporation, Chairman Tidar Heritage Foundation, Chairman IJIN (Indonesia Japan Investors Network), Chairman IABC (Indonesia Australia Business Council) in 2008 – 2013, Chairman PT. TWC Borobudur Prambanan UNESCO World Culture Heritage in 2008 – 2013. He is the recipient of Ernst & Young Awards (2004), Indonesia CEO’s Choice of The Year of The Indonesia Business Leader Awards – CNBC (2005)

Prof. Dr. Juwono Sudarsono served as Vice Governor of Lemhannas 1995-1998; Minister of State for the Environment under President Soeharto, 1998; Minister for Education and Culture under President B.J. Habibie, 1998-1999; Minister for Defense under President Abdurrahman Wahid , 1999-2000; Indonesian Ambassador for the United Kingdom under President Megawati Soekarnoputri, 2003-2004; and Minister for Defense under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, 2004-2009. He now serves as one of the honorary advisors to President University

Charles Himawan is Indonesia’s first doctor of Juridical Science (Legal Science) graduated from Harvard University Law School, United States (US) in 1979. He took his Legal Law Master (LLM) degree at Harvard University Law School, US in 1976 and the undergraduate program of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, 1961. Throughout his career he has been the dean of the University of Indonesia, faculty of law, a member of the national human rights commission and one of the founders of the University of Indonesia Center for Legal and Economic Studies.

Drs. Utomo Josodirdjo is one of the founders of President University who is also known as the “Father of Indonesian Accounting”. He was born in 1930 and passed away in 2022. Utomo had a strong educational background, with degrees from Erasmus University, University of Indonesia, and Harvard University. He was active in the development of modern accounting systems in Indonesia and was once a member of the Honorary Board of the Indonesian Accountants Association. In addition, he also has a hobby of flying and has been a pilot, taught at Airlangga University, and traveled on business to several cities in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Ir. Laksamana Sukardi (born October 1, 1956) is an Indonesian economist and politician. He served as Minister of State for State-Owned Enterprises from 1999 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2004. Before becoming a politician, he was one of the economists and bankers owned by Bank Lippo and LippoGroup. He joined the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) then the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Democratic Renewal Party (PDP).

Chairperson of President University Foundation

Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Susilo Soepandji serves as the Executive Chairman of President University Foundation. He is an academic and bureaucrat who has served as Governor of Lemhanas RI from 2011 to 2016. In addition, he has also been a Professor of Civil Engineering in Geotechnics at the University of Indonesia since 1998. Budi Susilo is also known as a lover of art and culture, especially wayang kulit and music. He has initiated several wayang kulit performances and formed the band Professor Band with several professors at the University of Indonesia. In his educational and governmental career, he has served as Head of the Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Director of the Technology Institute of the University of Indonesia, Assistant Dean, and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Indonesia from 2000 to 2004.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Chairy, S.E., M.M. serves as the Secretary of the President University Foundation. He has a multidisciplinary academic background, earning an Ir. in Civil Engineering from Institut Sains dan Teknologi Nasional, as well as an S.E., M.M., and Doctorate in Marketing from the University of Indonesia. He was appointed as Professor through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Chairy also participated in the Global Faculty Visitor Program at the Kauffman Foundation, Kansas City, USA. In his academic leadership career, he previously served as the Rector of President University and has contributed significantly to academic development and strategic management within the university and the foundation.
